Good Traffic Provides Sound Earning
How to Drive More Traffic to Your Website
I've written this article to help those that currently need more traffic to their website. In today's market there are many avenues you can travel down but with this article I will narrow those options down to only two.
SEO (search engine optimization) is the best method to use if you want to provide a steady flow of traffic over time. Being that it's free there is always going to be some kind of draw backs. SEO is a powerful method for any website but this method takes longer to achieve its peak abilities.
Search Engine Optimization is the process of choosing a main theme keyword for your website and then optimizing your website around those keywords to compete in a search engine. It would take a book to explain the entire method so I will briefly explain the basics. Search engines are basically large databases of information. They collect information by using electronic spiders that crawl the internet looking for new information to update in their database. When the spiders crawl your site they will determine what your site will be about by a few factors. How many times you use a word could tell the spider that your site is about blank. The words as a whole can reveal your sites keywords to the spider. The spider then runs back to its database and places your site into what it thinks your site is about. The database is full of sites just like yours so in order for a search engine to determine who's site is going to be listed first in the search results they base your site on a few factors. PR (page rank) is one of Google's algorithms that they've cooked up to determine how strong your site will be based on the number of other websites that are linking to you. The more sites linking to you web site the more likely that the search engine will find your site to be the authority in it's field and most likely the higher up in the search results you will appear.
Now I told you that to tell you this, finding your keywords can be tricky because guessing your keywords is disaster waiting to unfold. What you need to do is to list all the possible titles you can think of for your website and keep the list handy. Rather than guessing your keywords let Google tell you your keywords. Google offers a free program called the Google adword tool. This tool is for people who want to advertise with Google but it works free for find what keywords get in the way of people searching for them.
Take the first title on the list and place it into the tool and generate the keywords and choose to sort by the exact method. Chances are that your original idea would not product enough monthly searches to bring in any traffic. Try to find keywords that have a higher search volume so that you can drive the maximum amount of traffic.
Now that you have the high search volume keywords at hand it's time to check the level of competition (other websites) that is also competition for those same keywords. I want to point out that you can certainly rank for any keyword but the trick is how long it will take for you to float the top ten spots of the search engine. The less competition the faster you will climb. I use a free tool that Google offers called the Google toolbar. Once you install the tool you can enter those keywords into Google and check out what the top ten spots are holding down. Any PR (page rank) over 3 is not advised for a quick response but is doable over time. Another factor to judge is the links that are linked to the website in competition. These are called backlinks or one way links meaning that someone has linked to the website without the website linking back to them. It shows authority to search engines. Anything over 100 and you're going to have to wait a while to out rank them.
In summary search engine optimization is clearly the best choice when it comes to driving traffic to your website consistently over time. I would also recommend reading up on the topic is always an ongoing this as search engines are always tweaking their methods to keep the spammers at bay. Techniques are also discovered and shared amongst the masses as well.
